I had lofty plans for my time off over Christmas, but in the end I mostly played Mario Maker on my 3DS, turning my hand to some fledgling level design.
By the way, having missed the Wii U version, I’m rating this as one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played on a Nintendo handheld platform. The 100 included levels are among the most psychedelic Mario levels I’ve seen and cleverly introduce you to facets of good level design as you play through them.
Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t provide a method by which to share your creations on the 3DS (boo!), so here’s a video of my first attempt at a Mario level… ever!
So Nintendo, if you’re reading this, I’m ready to give up life as a software engineer in Montreal and move to Japan so I can design levels for your next Mario blockbuster. Call me.
