Things change in Montreal. It wasn’t long ago that the city’s mountain had just four well known lookouts, now it has a fifth, the “Belvédère Outremont”.

To be honest, I’m not sure how long this lookout has been there, nor how long it’s had official status, but it does seem it’s been factored into Montreal’s rather expensive 375th birthday celebrations.

What’s there to See?

The path leading up to the summit has some “interesting” sculptures of the mountain along the way. Also to be seen are the controversial granite stubs which are littered over various parts of the mountain.

At the top, the views over the North of the metropolis are pretty impressive, framed by surrounding trees and vegetation. You also have a perfect vantage point to watch the landing planes cruising past, if you like that sort of thing.

Getting There

There’s two entrances to the lookout. The main one is located on Mont-Royal Boulevard in Outremont, a short walk from Édouard Montpetit station on the Metro’s Blue Line. This is the start of the trail which will take you up to the lookout. From the other side, the exit comes out at the back of the University of Montreal, where you can follow the road down to Côte-des-Neiges.
